bio:

Composer, visual artist, and stage director, Saldanha works at the intersection of sound, corporeality, and spatial construction. His practice draws on pre-language, cybernetic feedback, animistic logic, and speculative cosmologies to forge environments where perception, presence, and reality coalesce into unstable, immersive states.

In 2024, he presented his first large-scale solo exhibition, SURFACE DISORDER, at Galeria Municipal do Porto, accompanied by a monographic publication distributed by Mousse Publishing. Between 2020 and 2022, as an associate artist at Teatro Municipal do Porto, he premiered Red Mercury, Lithium Faust, and Libidinal Lake, hybrid stage works integrating synthetic soundscapes, vocal distortion, and speculative dramaturgies. His work has been exhibited at institutions such as the Serralves Museum, Palais de Tokyo, and Centro Cultural de Belém (CCB).

An active presence in the Portuguese experimental scene since the late 1990s, Saldanha founded the sound-art collective SOOPA in 1998 and has since worked across a wide range of exploratory ensembles and collaborations. He currently leads the sonic projects HHY & The Macumbas, HHY & The Kampala Unit, and the drum collective Arsenal Mikebe, touring extensively throughout Europe, Africa, and beyond. His music has featured at major festivals including Primavera Sound, Le Guess Who, Unsound, Roskilde, Rewire, Fusion, Donaufestival, and CTM, and has been released by influential labels such as Nyege Nyege Tapes, Tzadik, and House of Mythology.

Saldanha is represented by Galeria Duarte Sequeira.
